A true story of survival, as a young couple's chance encounter leads them first to love, and then on the adventure of a lifetime as they face one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history.
Adrift is loosely based on the true story of two experienced sailors, Tami Oldham Ashcraft and Richard Sharp, who embarked on a 6,500 km (4,000 mi) delivery passage of 44 ft (13 m) yacht Hazana from Tahiti to San Diego in 1983. They sailed directly into Hurricane Raymond. In the aftermath of the storm, Ashcraft awakens after twenty-seven hours to find Sharp gone and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Ashcraft jerry-rigged a makeshift sail, survived on canned goods and navigated using a sextant for 41 days to reach Hilo, Hawaii. A harrowing journey of heartbreak, loss and survival.
