Grandparents ashes allegedly baked into cookies and brought to high school
Police in Davis, California are investigating whether a high school student made cookies mixed with human remains and then gave them to unknowing classmates.
According to Davis Police, several students at the DaVinci Charter Academy may have eaten cookies that were laced with the ashes of one of the student’s grandparents.
Police said the sugar cookies were brought to campus and fed to at least nine students.
Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov said he’s never come across a case like this.
“No, this is a weird one,” Davis told Sacrament TV station KOVR. “I have not heard of anyone getting sick or anybody being harmed as far as physically or physiologically by this.”
A statement issued by the Davis Joint Union School District said it couldn’t comment on confidential student matter, but that it’s investigation is ongoing.
“This case has been particularly challenging and we have responded appropriately and in the most respectful and dignified way possible,” the district said.
