Tasmania’s funeral industry is about to get a whole lot greener with the opening of the state’s first ever water cremation facility.
Alluvium Water Cremations will use a process known as alkaline hydrolysis to break down human remains using only water, a gentle flow, temperature and alkalinity.

The result is pure white bone ash that can be respectfully returned to loved ones, similar to traditional flame-based cremation.
The Mornington business recently shipped in their special water cremation unit from the United States and have already received widespread interest.
