The Blemmyes have been depicted the world over since as far back as the 7th century BC.
Ancient writers described the Blemmyes as headless beings whose faces sat on their chests—eyes, nose, and mouth embedded in the torso. Later accounts in the Americas echoed the same form, portraying the Ewaipanoma as a tribe with no neck, no head, and all features pressed into the upper body, their supposed brain location lost to time.
